Training Rabbits

Training your rabbit to come to you when you call its name is actually pretty easy. Simply put, when you call your rabbit and it comes, you give it a treat. Yes, there's a little more involved. For instance you have to have a relationship with your rabbit first. Is your rabbit comfortable with you? Will it eat from you? Does it like to be held? You need to tackle these issues first, then you can start training your rabbit to do other things.

The first step to teaching your rabbit to come when you call it is to find out what its favorite treat is. Use this treat as a bait to get the rabbit to come to you. When it starts to come consistently, move further back.

Then you need to get close enough to your rabbit to show it the treat. If your rabbit is new and uncomfortable with you, check out the reading above to get over that hurdle first.

Training your pet rabbit to use a litter pan or litter box isn't too difficult either. You'll probably notice that there is a corner in the cage that the rabbit tends to use the most. You can use this to your advantage to get it to use the litter pan.

You want your rabbit to get accustomed to using the pan. That way you can put several pans around the house and when your rabbit is loose it will use the pan instead of going wherever it wants. Put a small litter pan in the corner of the cage that your rabbit uses and put some of its droppings in the pan. It will think of that as its spot and will start using the litter pan thereafter - wherever you put it.

Some rabbits will catch onto the training faster than others. If your rabbit is having a difficult time at first, don't fret. Just keep with it.
