Children and Rabbits

Are you considering a rabbit for your children? Even though rabbits are cute and cuddly, they are not the best pets for children. An adult needs to be committed to the care and supervision of the pet rabbit..

Rabbits do not particularly like being picked up and held. By nature they are very nervous. They can easily be startled and jump from your arms, falling and breaking something. When young children are holding a rabbit, they should be sitting on the ground so the rabbit cannot fall.

Younger children have shorter attention spans for a pet and may not fully understand a rabbits temperment. Rabbits need a lot of attention but shouldn't be handled too much. Rabbits do bite when afraid and a rabbit bite hurts. You must keep aware of whether your rabbit is not eating and take appropriate action when necessary.
